How to use the Slower Shutter App

Read this tutorial on how to use Slower Shutter to calculate your shutter speed duration.

Version History

  • v1.1 – A better error message when you try to set the time for times under 4 seconds
  • v1.1 – When the timer ends, vibrate the iOS device so you know the time is up
  • v1.1 – Use the countdown timer graphic as the button to start/stop the countdown
  • v1.1 – Add a Stop button so you can stop the timer before it reaches zero
  • v1.1 – Add support for up to 16 stops of neutral density
  • v1.2 – Add a Settings option to the General iOS Settings app to allow user to choose between a vibrate alert or a built-in system sound alert when the timer reaches zero
  • v1.2 – Fixes the issue of choosing 1/50th as your base shutter speed calculating as if you entered 1/40th of a second as your original shutter speed
  • v1.2 – Allow for Slower Shutter app to go to the background and have the timer continue to run

Future Feature Ideas

  • When timer ends, vibrate the iOS device so you know the time is up
  • Improve the alert message when you try to set the timer when the shutter speed is less than 4 seconds
  • Add a Stop button so you can stop the timer before it reaches zero
  • Make the Start Timer button alternate between Start and Stop
  • Make the iPhone screen flash when the timer is done
  • Add the option for more Neutral Density strength (i.e. 16 stops, 20 stops)
  • Use the countdown timer graphic as the button to start/stop the countdown
